Noise Can Help You Sleep

Getting a good, uninterrupted night’s sleep is key to proper dreaming and promotes good physical and mental health. The result of uninterrupted restful sleep affects all aspects of your life, such as your relationships with your spouse and children, your productivity at work. You will be completely amazed when you start to wake up refreshed every morning instead of groggy and crabby.

There are many devices on the market for masking unwanted ambient noise so that you can get an uninterrupted night’s sleep. The most commonly used devices are the white noise generator, pink noise generator and the sound. Adaptive sound conditioners put a unique twist on a proven method for helping you sleep. There are white noise machines for traveling or which you can place directly in your ears to experience 100 percent of all noises blocked.

White Noise Generators

White noise generators can seem like a miracle to someone who has had trouble sleeping for years. They work on two principles. First, noise generators desensitize your hearing so that every little noise you hear does not keep you awake, or wake you up. Second, the gentle whirring quietly covers stray noises, masking them without blocking your hearing completely, you can still here sound like a fire alarm or a child crying.

The term white noise is intended to be similar to white light.  Since white light contains all light frequencies in equal proportions; white noise is intended to be similar in that it contains all sound frequencies. Usually this is accomplished by generating random frequencies in equal proportions per octave this is done either by using a computer, special electronics, or a dedicated sound synthesizer. Since every increasing octave is double the size of the previous, this effectively increases the high frequency content.

Pink Noise Generators

The term pink noise is basically White noise, but with the amplitude decreasing with increasing frequency at a constant rate of 3db per octave. Simply put, the lower frequencies are emphasized as a result.  You will find that they sound similar; but most can notice that the Pink Noise has an emphasized low end.

One major advantage of Pink noise over White noise is the added low frequency emphasis.  This makes it less like static/rain and more like a distant ocean roar.  This emphasized low frequency can be a benefit if you are dealing with low frequency noises.  If you live in a neighborhood and have to deal with car sub woofers or industrial noises in your, this additional low end emphasis can provide additional masking power.

Since noise generators can mask unpleasant background noises, and can sound like a pleasant rain fall; some people find it useful to help fall asleep, nap, or relax. They are also frequently use by tinnitus sufferers since the white noise tends to mask the ringing sound of tinnitus in the ears. Tinnitus, or ringing in the ears, is a very irritating condition frequently without known cause or treatment, and is also a symptom of Mnires disease, a disorder of the inner ear that causes vertigo, and white noise provides a contrast between the ringing and an absence of any noise that reduces the apparent level of sound.

Sound Conditioners that Block Noise While You Sleep

Sound conditioners are much more than just a CD; they generate a soothing sound that totally relaxes you. The pleasant, natural noise produced by sound conditioners varies gently throughout the night from sounds of ocean surf, gentle breezes, rain, and running streams.

Sound conditioners are an outstanding choice for parents with restless babies. They provide background noise that masks the sounds of family moving around the house and calm without becoming repetitive as with some white or pink noise generators might.
